If you’ve spent any time in Columbus, you’ve probably heard people talk about the Short North Arts District – commonly referred to as “the Short North”. It’s one of the city’s most well-known areas – full of restaurants, bars, shops, and art galleries – and it’s the kind of neighborhood where there’s always something going on. It’s also one of the communities Borror is proud to develop in.

So, where exactly is the Short North?

The Short North runs along High Street, right between The Ohio State University campus and Downtown Columbus. If you keep heading south from campus, you’ll hit the Short North before you get downtown. It also borders Italian Village and Victorian Village, two other popular neighborhoods that attract everyone from young professionals to growing families to retirees.

A Little History

Before the Short North became the go-to destination it is now, it was an area that, for years, had seen better days.

Starting in the 1980s, local artists began moving in, opening galleries and studios in old storefronts. They brought with them an energy that helped turn things around for the neighborhood. Over time, small businesses like coffee shops, restaurants, and boutiques followed, and the neighborhood slowly transformed into what we know today.

Now, it’s one of the most recognizable parts of Columbus: colorful murals, historic buildings, and a mix of old and new that still feels true to its roots.

Why People Love It

The Short North has a little bit of everything. You can grab brunch at a local spot, check out an art gallery or two, do some shopping, and end the night at one of the bars or rooftop patios – all without traveling more than a few blocks. It’s walkable, busy in a good way, and has an energy that you won’t find anywhere else in the city.
